MPSC or UPSC: which should you pick?

They are not the same race

UPSC opens all-India services with national postings; MPSC keeps you within Maharashtra with strong state-cadre roles. Neither is objectively better — the right answer depends on your goals, language strength and willingness to relocate.

The syllabi overlap heavily, which is why many aspirants prepare for both. But the optional-subject and Marathi-language requirements differ enough that a deliberate choice early saves months.

A practical rule

If a Maharashtra cadre and Marathi-medium comfort matter to you, MPSC is a serious first choice — not a backup. Treat it as a primary target and prepare accordingly.
