When is the UPSC CSE 2026 Mains exam?

What is the eligibility for UPSC CSE?

You need to be an Indian citizen (relaxed for some services), hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline, and be aged 21–32 as of 1 August of the exam year. Upper age and attempt limits are relaxed for OBC, SC/ST and other reserved categories.

How many attempts are allowed?

General candidates get 6 attempts up to age 32; OBC candidates get 9 attempts up to age 35; SC/ST candidates have no attempt cap up to age 37. PwBD candidates have separate relaxations.

What is the starting salary of an IAS officer?

An entry-level IAS/IPS officer is placed at Pay Level 10 with a basic pay of ₹56,100. With Dearness Allowance, HRA and other allowances the in-hand is roughly ₹1,00,000+, rising up to the apex scale of ₹2,50,000 (Cabinet Secretary).
